Hello everyone. It has been a really long time since I have posted anything on this site. I apologize. I have started a new adventure that has and will continue to take up all of my time. In the spring of 2013 I will be Hiking the entire Appalachian Trail. To learn more about this and my adventure come on over to Hikingthetrail.com. You may have noticed that I hardly ever update my @NetNutt twitter account. This is because I am primarily tweeting on @hikingthetrail.

Have a great day.

A Dying Breed

Life 8 August 2011 | 0 Comments

It never fails that there are plenty of things to watch on TV however most of it is CRAP. Everyone knows the saying one million channels and nothing on. Well it never fails I end up watching one of two shows on reruns No Reservations or Dirty Jobs.  Most of the time it does not even matter what their show is about. Just hearing them talk about culture or life while in the exact moment it happens an no added BS just to make it full of drama is what keeps my attention. Below are two videos one from each of the shows hosts. Both are quite long but worth the time.

Anthony Bourdain

Mike Roe

Now you might ask why I chose the title of this post as a Dying Breed. Well I say this because shows like this that are based on or show “true reality” they try to make sure things are as true to real and in the moment as possible. Sure there are some scripted parts of the show however they do not manufacture drama or “good TV”. A few of those shows you might know where they manufacture “good TV” is American Chopper, Big Brother, Survivor, and the list goes on. These types of shows are a dying breed while the manufactured “true life” shows every moment of every waking day are invading the airwaves. If you have not see No Reservations or Dirty Jobs I would recommend you take some time and watch them.

Memorial day weekend in rural Iowa.

Life 31 May 2011 | 1 Comment

As I was headed home from visiting the family in Southwest Iowa it was a beautiful partly cloudy typical windy Iowa spring day. As we drove along one of the back roads we came across a small but nicely honored cemetery. Below are two photos of the sight.

Iowa remembers

Memorial day in rural Iowa

I stopped briefly to snap a couple of shots and off we went down the road. A few miles down the road we see off in the distance hundreds of flags in the distance on top of a hill. We decided to take a stop off at the Tabor Iowa cemetery.

(A quick side note before the photos)
The Tabor Cemetery is where many members of my family were laid to rest. It was amazing and humbling all at the same time.

Shadows of the past

Honoring the branches

On this memorial day weekend I would like to remember all those that have been before us farming the lands of the mid west, fighting for our freedoms, standing up for what they believed in, and built from nothing everything. Thank you for what we have today even though many have lost sight of that.

That is all…..

What dreams we have!

Fun, Funny, Life 15 May 2011 | 1 Comment

A friend and I were talking about the dreams we had the night before and how they were just really strange odd or just plain weird.  She had asked what my dream was about. Here is the conversation we had straight out of our chat log but cleaned up a little.

Friend: So what was your dream about?

Me: the best way to describe it was i bought or rented not sure this “apartment” but it turned out to be a massive maze of rooms full of cool stuff that when we were given the keys told if we cleaned it out we got to keep anything we wanted and if we sold it we got to keep the money.  There were guns, collectibles, a massive train set and loads more.  It even had a private door to a bar / Mexican restaurant next door that was run by an Asian named SAM.

Her: I seriously just LOL’d

Me: why?

Her: A Mexican restaurant ran by and Asian named Sam?…. That is totally random.

Me: Tell me about it I am the one who had the dream. What was yours about?

Her: Well you and I, the kids, and your room mate were all in a basement but we were actually on the death star. the boys were dressed like ewoks, me like Leia, you were Han, and your room mate was chewbaca (the Star Wars topic of convos from last last night). We were fighting big monster beetles (that would be the Fable 2 part of my day) and we had to save someone (cant remember who) from having an alien burst out of their chest (enter Space Balls), then all the sudden we were in a roller disco (I think Austin Powers Gold member is to blame for that) and after the roller disco  but then I got woke up cause the dogs knocked something over in the living room.

Me: LOL ROFL

Her: My fav part is your room mate, the blond chewbaca!

So lets take a look at these dreams shall we. My dream was just down right weird and odd and the fact that I now have an inventory of things in my head that was in that maze of a building. I think I have been watching to much auction / picking / storage shows on tv.

Hers on the other hand  was induced mostly by pain medications and lack of sleep so she says. I just think she is weird. :-D

Now every time i watch Star Wars I will picture her 2 little kids running around as ewoks and a blond chewbaca.  What dreams may come?

THE SAGA CONTINUES……..

Did we miss Spring?

Life 27 May 2010 | 0 Comments

Wow the past few weeks seemed to have flow by in a blur.  Traveled to Ohio for a graduation. The next weekend headed to Oklahoma for another graduation type ceremony.  Work has been keeping me very busy and we now start my favorite season. BBQ season….. Great food great fun and awesome people.  With this weekend being Memorial day I will be attending two BBQs and I am excited for both. On Monday I get to go see my friends new little boy of which I have not met yet. Seems like we are now living in what I’m going to affectionately call the flood zone.  The mid west is finally able to get a few days of sun however those days are unseasonably warm and very humid.  I am not complaining as I am very tired of the rain and glad to see the sun out.

Nothing else really exciting or new in the world of the Nutt.  Hopefully I will have some projects to announce here in the new future.

Till then…..

BBQ till I drop.

End of an Era

Life, News, Update 3 May 2010 | 0 Comments

In a few short days my other personal blog will sadly be no more.  AdamNutting.com will be redirected over to this blog.  The reason why I decided to this was quite frankly time. I have not updated my AdamNutting.com blog in such a long time and quite frankly just decided to move in a new direction with it all. Also I did not really see much of a reason why I would need two personal blogs.  So those of you who have been faithful readers of AdamNutting.com I thank you and hope you keep reading as I transition over to my new “Web Persona”.. Like always More to come.

Airshows and Sunburns.

Fun, Life 3 May 2010 | 0 Comments

Over the weekend I headed north to take in the sights and sounds of the Sound of Speed Airshow in Saint Joseph Missouri. Had a great time. Met up with my mom and youngest brother to take in the event. I took some video while little bro too still photos with my camera.  Not sure if he had more fun with the camera or watching the planes.  Only downside to the weekend was I got a little bit of a sunburn. Ok … Ok it was quite the sunburn. Still hurting today.  I will be posting photos and video hopefully soon.

Bella’s Big Adventure

Life 26 April 2010 | 0 Comments

To begin the story we have to first tell the story that set Bella’s Big Adventure aka Operation Pass the Pig into motion.  My brothers fiancée is going to be very busy this summer and with her still in college she had no one to watch her guinea pig. My brother can not take it because being in pilot school for the Air Force they have strict rules on animals and pets in the dorms.  My mom and youngest brother decided that they would be able to watch it.  Sounds like a great idea however the pig is in Arizona and my youngest brother is in Iowa.  So the planning of the logistics on getting a pig across the united states safely to Iowa begins.

Trip 1. Pig Rides from Arizona to Amarillo Texas. 750 Miles.
Trip 2. Amarillo Texas to Wichita Kansas. 420 Miles
Trip 3. Wichita Kansas to Overland Park Kansas 190 Miles.
Trip 4. Overland Park Kansas to Saint Joseph Missouri 65 Miles
Trip 5. Saint Joseph Missouri to Iowa 130 Miles

During the course of about 2 weeks Bella had traveled a total of 1,555 miles to stay with my youngest brother for the summer.

Now many of you are probably thinking well why doesn’t her family watch the pig for the summer? Well it would actually be a much longer trip to get the pig from where she was in Arizona to her parents in Wisconsin. Plus why not give my 13 year old brother a guinea pig for the summer. Sounded like a good plan to us. We just didn’t have any idea what all was involved until after we got the pig safely to Iowa LOL.

Growing up I had dogs and fish. We did have a cat for a brief time. O wait we also had parakeets for awhile. Never did we have rodents. So I had no idea what to expect. I had found a small BBQ restaurant called 2 Brothers BBQ in Wichita where my brother and I would meet to make the hand off. Great BBQ by the way I would highly recommend it. My brother pulls up and we start chatting he opens his trunk and the amount of crap this little rodent has is amazing. I didn’t also realize the amount of effort it takes to take care of this little rodent. Feed it food type A two times a day and food type B 1 time a day. Also don’t forget the ……. yikes, by the time our dinner was done I had a 4 page manual on how to take care of this rodent for a few days.

I took Bella home for a week and even thought it was interesting having her in the house it was a pretty good time. Down side was my puppy kept wanting to find out what she was and if it was a play toy. My puppy would have no idea what to do with it had she gotten a hold of her in the first place. Now that she is gone the dog can finally settle down and things are back to normal.

Now there is the matter of getting it back to Arizona. That is another story for another day and until then I’m going to try not to think about it.
